American modernism within the visual arts has garnered sustained interest among students and general audiences in current years, although usually with a focus on modernist painting. This exhibition seeks to increase that slim emphasis, highlighting an array of techniques and a spread of artists who explored modernism’s myriad forms via paper-based media. The Neuberger Museum of Art presents teaching programs which introduce visitors to American art of the 20th century, traditional African art and modern art by way of visitor-centered experiences. During the Middle Ages, the word “artista” referred to one thing resembling “craftsman,” or pupil of the humanities.
